Konstantin Tkachuk, Titan Network - DePIN for TikTok, $1M Revenue & 550K Devices (#48)
April 03, 2025 | 49:51 | Episode 48
In Brief
DePINed is a podcast diving deep into the world of Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks. These are the protocols that crowdsource real-world infrastructure — from bandwidth to compute — using crypto incentives to build scalable, global systems. Hosted by Tom Trowbridge, Co-Founder & CEO of Fluence, DePINed spotlights the builders, investors, and projects that are shaping the future of physical networks.
In Episode 48, Tom sits down with Konstantin Tkachuk, co-founder and CSO of Titan Network, to unpack how Titan is quietly becoming a backbone of Web3 infrastructure — and doing what most DePIN projects only dream of: shipping real services to real customers.
What if the cloud wasn’t run by hyperscale providers — but by people?
That’s the vision behind Titan Network, a people-powered infrastructure protocol aggregating storage, bandwidth, and compute from idle devices around the world.
Konstantin explains:
“You can connect any device — phone, laptop, Raspberry Pi, even enterprise infrastructure — and Titan bundles those resources into usable web services like CDN, storage, and container compute.”
And this isn’t just theory. Titan is already serving enterprise clients, including TikTok, through its decentralized CDN services.
Customer First, Protocol Second
Unlike many Web3 protocols that start with infrastructure and hope customers follow, Titan flipped the script:
• Started with demand: Focused on what customers are willing to pay for — namely, CDN services.
• Then built supply: Onboarded contributors in the regions where demand already exists.
• Now scaling globally: Operating in 140+ countries, with over 550,000 devices and 90,000+ daily active users.
“Most DePIN protocols aggregate idle resources first and then wait for customers. We did the opposite.”
A Real-World Business Model: Traffic Arbitrage
Titan’s core business model is simple and powerful:
• Enterprise customers save up to 85% on bandwidth costs by using Titan’s residential bandwidth instead of traditional CDNs like Akamai.
• Node operators earn passively from idle devices — phones, laptops, or stationary boxes — with transparent, on-chain revenue distribution.
“You’re paying $50 a month for internet, but using a fraction of it. Titan turns that idle bandwidth into earnings.”
Tokenomics That Actually Work
Titan’s incentive model is clean and effective:
• 80% of revenue goes to node operators.
• 20% to Titan Network as a protocol fee.
• Rewards are based on actual utilized resources, with dynamic daily allocation.
• Payments are in fiat → converted to $TT tokens → distributed transparently on-chain.
“You only earn if your hardware is used. Real usage, real value.”
Edge CDN That Goes Beyond the Cloud
Titan brings content closer to the user than ever before:
• From food delivery apps to video platforms like TikTok, latency matters.
• Titan places content as close as your neighborhood, beating centralized CDNs in speed and cost.
“A burrito menu should live near the people who can actually order it.”
Designed for Emerging Markets
With 60% of future cloud demand coming from emerging regions — but only a fraction of available infrastructure — Titan is betting big on:
• Asia, MENA, Latin America, and Africa
• Onboarding regions based on demand
• Offering an alternative to cloud lock-in and slow infrastructure rollouts
“They already have mobile phones and businesses. Titan provides the cloud layer.”
From Protocol Labs to Titan
Konstantin’s journey began at Protocol Labs, where he worked on storage before co-founding Titan. Today, the team has:
• Raised funding
• Built a global contributor network
• Reached $1M annualized revenue while still on testnet
• Plans to launch mainnet by Q2 2025
What’s Next?
• Mainnet launch: Targeting Q2 2025
• Whitepaper & tokenomics: Releasing in coming weeks
• Scaling CDN footprint: From 5 to 50 countries
• Growing compute & storage clients: Especially in emerging markets
“We’re building the last-mile delivery layer for the cloud.”
